CORRESPONDENCE
MASTERTON PUBLIC PARK. To the Editor. Sir.—ln your issue of the 6th you have given a report of the meeting of the Town Lands Trustees, by which 1 observe that the chairman referred to a liability of the Park Trustees tor the recreation ground known as the Masterton Public Park. As a citizen, I feel I am, in common with my fellow citizensliableforthe debt, which has been justly and fairly contracted, for the recreation and benefit of the people, and if we only look back for the past twelve months we can judge of the benefit conferred on us by this valuable reserve, by the thousands of people who have enjoyed themselves by healthful recreation and sports. We also feel ir.debted to the early settlers for another valuable estate provided for us in our very valuable Town JL/ands property, and as both of these properties (Park and Town Lands) have become by law the property of the citizens, I think, sir, there ought to be no difficulty in providing the sum of £56 for about six years, in room of voting £35 per annum for an indefinite period,' as the Trust appear to be doing and thereby releasing the mortgage. I think that this question ought to be ventilated so that the voters will be prepared at the election in April to impress upon the incoming members of the Trust the desirability of discharging this liability. I am, etc., Citizen.
