FEATHERSTON-WEDNESDAY,

Before H, A. Stratford, R.M.

Samuel Whiteside was charged on the information of F. C. Smith with having, on tho 21st inst,, unlawfully assaulted and beaten the person of Maria Lucy Whiteside, his wife. The ovidenco of the wife and two witnesses showed that a very serious assault was mndo upon her, she having boon severely boaten about tho body and face. _ The defendant was sentenced to imprisonment with hard labor for two months.

Maria Lucy Whiteside then applied to the Court'for a protection order against her husband, and also for maintenance for tho children.

Tho Court ordered that the wifo hayo the custody of tho two children, that tho defendant do pay 8s a week each for their maintenance, and that the applicant's property be protected against the husband, his creditors, and all persons claiming under him,

MASTERTON-THIS DAY,

DRUNKENNESS. John Myers, alias tho Marquis, pleaded guilty to a charge of having been, drunk the previous night, and said if ho was let offib would bo his last time in Court, as ho intended to become a teetotaller, Sorgeanfc'Prico showed that the charge was tho third within a vory recent period. Fined £3, in default of payment 7 days' hard labor. A first offendor was mulcted in ss.
