MEETINGS AT TINUI.

[From.our own Correspondent.] Tinui, this day: Mr .Beetham held a moeting at the Town Hall last night; The attendance was large and enthusiastic, Mr Mackay, Chairman of the Wairarapa East County Council, occupied the chair, Mr Beetham went overmuch the same ground as he did at other meetings. He said he was in favor of a Commission being appointed to enquire into the wants of counties, and of the Government supplying borrowed capital at a low rate of interest to necessitous counties to open up roads, the repayment to extend over from 30 to 50 years. In reply to Mr R, Meredith, Mr Beetham said they might thug borrow at a low rate and relieve ratepayers of the special rates incurred under the Roads and Bridges Construction Act. Several otliei questions wore responded to, and a vote of thanks for the address, proposed by Mr R. Maunsell and seconded by MrR. Meredith, was heartily carried.

A meeting of ratepayers wai afterwards held.

Mr Mackay, County Chairman, explained that it was necessary to,raise nine hundred pounds for maintenance for the present yoar, or all men and works would be suspended.

Considerable discussion ensued. Ultimately it was resolved on the motion of Mr R, Meredith, that a special works rate be struck to liquidate the £9OO liability. An amendment by.Mr Bejliss, that the m'p'ney be recpuped out of next years rates, was lest.

A vote of the ratepayers must be formally taken before effect can be given to the resolution.
