CORRESPONDENCE.

A GRIEVANCE.

To the Editor, i

Sir,—Allow me a small space in your valuable paper to air not only my own opinion, but that of plenty of others, at the great piece of injustice I was subjected to by having my place searched on the 2nd of the present month, Two constables were driven up as far as the bridge, where they left the break in charge of tile driver. They then came on to my house ,vith a warrant to search my premises for malt or spirituous liquors that 1 might have concealed on or about the premises. They searched everywhere they could think of, and the upshot of the matter was they found a mare's nest. Instead of loading up their break as they were led to believe, they had to return as empty-handed as they came up. They informed me that they had heard that there had been a lot of drinking during Christmas week at my place, which Icould not deny. I had upwards of forty persons to dinner on Christmas Day, nearly all of whom sent to Tenui for one or more bottles of grog, and got pretty merry over it. Had their informant taken the trouble of watching at the Post .Office corner he .could not have failed to have seen where the liquor was coming from,. and at the some time saved me from the indignity of ' having my place searched, thecountry an expense, and the police a bootless errand, Apologising for occupying so much of your valuable space, I am, &c, William Riddle.
