BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of tho Masterton Borough Council was held last night, Present—Cra Perry(in the chair), Mason, Muir, Chamberlain, Williams and Gapper. The minutes of the.previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE, Mr T. A. Sparksman applied for the use of Section 85, Manaia, the section being a gravel reserve—Grauted. Captain Peacock, of the Fire Brigade, applied for assistance towards defraying the expenses of the Fire Brigade team that is about to visit Napier. Cr. Mason moved and Cr Williams seconded, That the sum of £lO be granted. -j-Carried. ! An application from the Brigade to have additional Abyssinian wells sunk in the Borough was referred to the Works Committee.

Mr J. Ross, Mr E. McEwen, and Messrs Kibblewhite and Cameron applied for permission to heat wheel tires in the open air.

It appears that the applications came before the Council, owing to the Inspector of Nuisances havin? given notice to discontinue lighting fires in the open air without permission from the Council. ' . Cr Muir said a similar notice had been given to his firm, and they had started to build a furnace.'

The Chairman moved that Crs Muir, Mason, Chamberlain, and the mover be a Committee to report on the application. —Carried.
