The game was remarkable tor' three incidents which'.-.do not often occur. Sleeman did the hat trick while bowling for Masterton; the ball,; being' 'struck by the batsman, hit the opposite wicket, and the result was a tie, each Bide having scored .'7l.- W. Welch captained-'the visitors, and W. McKenzie the home team. Opaki went first to the wickets, and four wickets fell for four runs, the first four batsmen retiring with- ; duck's eggs. The remainder, howover, put together the very fair total off 1. For Masterton, Sleeman and McKenzie made a yery' prqjnisjhg beginning, the first wi.qkef fallii)g'fqr lfi, and Sjeeman' credited himself with 20,. J. Williams afterwards topping that number by one, When eight wickets were down only three run? ware wanted to win, but that number could not be got, and, as before stated, the result was a tie, The Welch family appropriated all the bowjr ing honors, Early in the game Beechey received a nasty blow in tho eye, which interfered with both his bowling and batting.
