PAHIATUA ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of- the Pahilatua RoaJ Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Davie, Hall, Crewe and Potter. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. From Mr J, H. Anderson, asking that payment be passed for Hall's road contract'(which would be finished in a few days) and held oyer till then. Erom the Wairarapa East County Counoil, asking Board to co-operate in testing the validity of the substituted Native Bate Roll.
From Colonial Secretary, stating Mr Farrell's election was gazetted. _ From Property Tax Department, ask-, ing for copy of resolution re rate for 1885:6.
From Public Works Department, enclosing debentures re loan of £lß6l, under Roads and Bridges Construction Act.
Proposed by. Mr Crewe, seconded by Mr Potter, that Mr Giles' letter be .received, and that he be informed that"'his contract is now cancelled, 'Carried. Proposed by Mr Crewe, seconded, by Mr Hall, that this Board declines to take any actioiwe Native rates, as suggested by the "Wairarapa Eaat County Council,' and that the Clerk write to that effect.
Proposed by Mi- Crewe, seconded by Mr Potter, that the debentures be signed by the Chairman and sealed with the Board's seal, and returned to the Public Works Deoartment.
Proposed by Mr Crewe, seconded by Mr Hall, that Mr Anderson be informed that the Board will hold him responsible for the due fulfilment of No. 1 and 2 sections of Toritea Puketoi Road contract;
The Overseer's report was read and adopted. A report by Mr Beaufort on the stato of the pegs on the 2 miles of Toritea-Puketoi Road line, where the bush had been felled, showed that care had been taken to preserve them in their places, and where the contractor had diverged from the road line was evidently, a mistake, Tho action taken by tjs Chairman in the matter. {(pprov-ed, and the report adoptee], Proposed by Mr Crewe, seoonded by Mr totte,r that the Clerk writejto the Public Works Department re deviation of Toritea-Puketoi Road, and obtain all the necessary information to give effect' to the same,—Carried.
Proposed by Mr Crewe, seconded by Mr Potter, that tenders bo called for forming the Toritea-Puketoi Road from Mangaramarama Road to Beaufort's deviation in six sections. Tenders to be in by next meeting on the 16th January. Proposed by Mr Crewe, seoonded by Mr Potter, that the Survey Department be asked to reserve sites for gravel pits when cutting up township reserves, and, that with a view of metalling a portion of the road at once, the sites beat once fixed upon.—Carried, Proposed by Mr Hall, seconded by Mr Crewe, That in future the Works Committee have power to deal with final payment on completion of contracts between ordinary meetings of the board.—Carried.'
