A PIOUS FRAUD.
The following item has come to hand by the last San Francisco mail :-AtPlymouth, England, on November 6th, tho Rev. Stewart Ross, formerly rector of Christchurch at Belfast, Ireland, was addressing the Plymouth Young Men's Christian Association, when Charles .Joy, a Canadian emigrant commissioner, burst into the room and shouted " You hypocrite, you eloped with my wife." Ross turned pale and fled from the room, The audience were surprised for one exciting moment, and when many of them realised what was the matter they became a howling mob, and pursued their lecturer- for a mile, yelling all the time. At this point Ross, who was breathless and driven at bay, turned suddenly and stabbed two of his most active pursuers. The others ooming up at the time seized and disarmed the murderous rector. The police then putin an appearance and arrested him, He was taken before a magistrate, when charges were lodged against him, and he was remanded for. a we?k without bail. It transpired that Ross had disappeared from Befast twp years ago, leaving hid wife. Mrs Joy was found in prisoner's lodging, and when informed of Ross' arrest she gloried in. .her connection with "Tlie Lord a annotated" as she called Him. She attended, the Court, and sat in ft brazen manner thrqugl)oi\t the whole proceedings.
