The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed,
The Treasurer's report showed £547 4s to credit of General Account, and £4592!} gd to, oredjt qf Imprest' Account, anfVlsq tlje financial pqsjifciqn of each sub-district.' The matter qf su'bsjdy was also, referred, to, and the amoqnt to credit qf each sipV district after reoeiptof amount to be pajd at once,
A communication from the Property Tax Commissioner stated the amount duo the Board at maximum £3OOO, or for halfyear £IOOO, being £SOO to Road Board, and £SOO to Wairarapa West County Ooqnojl, Messrs Donald and M'oDougall wore appointed to Bign cheques.' Accounts amounting to £lB6 against the General Account, and'' £l2l 17s gainst Impress Account, woro paired for p.ayme'nj;." ; ' ■"' ' ' '"'
The ''Overseer reported qn Mr Gallag: hep's jettep aj last meeting, that'some person, whose name he opuld nqt ascertain, had removed a load nf sand for brick-making purposes, but had done no damage, The correspondence outwards was read from the letter book.
Inwards—From Property Tax Cominjssjoner, stating that the Board's statement pe rites op Crown Lands, was the correct'one, and' tl|e'aniquM would be paid. From Mr Anderson, stating he would make the survey of Stoney Creek road at once.
From the District Survey Office stating that beyond giving certain information to the Public Works Office, nothing had been done in respect of Cross' Creek road. From Wairarapij West County Council, regretting it's inability to comply with the Board's request in extending the Martinborough:Pahaua Road, and also notifying that the Council would require the Board to take oyer .the completed portions of the road, ag several stages would ' require attention, " ' '."' " ' ' Mr Parrjs asked infqrmatipn re the road at Stqney Creek, and if Mr Riddiford had been asked to give the land required through his property. It was stated that when Mr Rißdi ford was asked some time ago he had declined, Mr Harris thought he would now give the land, if proper gates were erected. It was suggested that Mr Harris, as Warden, should ascertain if he would. A letter from Messrs Beard & Gray re Mr George Harris' claim, being heard before two Justices, was read. The Chairman pointed out the action he had taken, and suggested that Messrs H.H.Jackson, J. Barton, H. Braithwaite and himself visit the land in dispute. Tlie follpwiftg tenders, were opened for work on Dudding's line :-C. Marsh, £2 2s fid per chain (accepted); A. Dick, £2 9s 9d per chain; George Fonton, £2 10s per chain.'
Mr Jackson attended on a promise made by the Boaro! to Mr Tajt of £5 for road-making, and as lje l}ad bought the property asked that tjie promise bo fulfillei^Granted,
Mr Lot Gross asked that sonio further action be taken in respect of a road to section 97, Western Lake block.
It was pointed out that the Board would not be justified in expending money in opening up the road, The Clerk of the Board was instructed to write the Chief Surveyor on the subject.
The Overseer reported that a track could be'made from-the mouth of the Whatarangi stream at a cost of about £2O. The grade would be steep, and the track about five feet wide.
Mp Hjirrjs thought Hiq track was necessary, but }ie was anxious, 'as the funds were low, to get the gravelling on MoLeod's cutting done first, and that the track stand over for a time, , Mr Dowman asked on behalf of the ratepayers in Maryborough, that the ranger be instructed not to go further than the Ruamahaiiga bridge.' ' The Chairman ruled that as the meoting was not now a full one, it would bo necessary for Mr Dowman to give notice of motion for next meeting Notice given accordingly,
Mr Mathews called attention to bush falling on a certain spot on Western Lake JJoad, which, if contmued.'woujd cauge slips, etc., and that at' fas request the work had been stopped. ( The following works were then author? izes: 20 ohains. metalling from Wilkinson's river; 30 chains metalling on Southern part Mr Wilkinson's river; 40 chains metalling at Waironeomai. Mr Mathews stated if it was found funds were short the settlers would make it good until the new rate was '• made.
