TOWN LANDS TRUSTEES.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Masterton Town Lands Trustees was held last night. Present.—Messrs Gapper, (Chairman) Hare, Parsons, Feist, Perry, and Muir, Tho minutes of the previous meeting were read aud confirmed.

An application from the Library Committee for a grant of £SO for the purchase of books, was, on the motion of Mr Parspns, secqnded by Mr Hare, referred to the Finance Committee, to report at next meeting. Mr'A Faloon applied for permission to transfer Ins lease of part of section 88 to Mr G, Dixon,

On the motion of Mr Perry,' seconded by Mr Feist, it was resolved that the application be granted.

An account of £2 2s from Messrs I Drummond & Co:, for surveying portion of the Education Reserve next the Park, which is to bo transferred to the Trustees, was received, and ordered to be paid, Mj Duncan and another waited on the Trustees'with reference fq a building to be used as pfficovs quarters that was now being erected on the ground attached to the Salvation Army Barracks, and asked whether the .Trustees would at the expiration of the present lease allow compensation or an extension of the Jease, The Chairman said that was one of the things their rules did not contemplate, He suggested that tho request be put in writing. The suggestion was adopted, and the deputation withdraw, Mr T. Parsons applied for a lease of Town acre 42, with building and compensation clauses, Mr Hare said he had also been asked whether acre 106 coujd ajso be let oh building lease, Some discussion took place as to whether the acres should be subdivided or not, and it was resolved that aeotions 100 and 42 be subdivided into four allotments, and section 103 into two allotments, and to put up the leases at public auction, at certain reserved prices. , After some discussion further details were left with a committee consisting of Messrs Hare, Perry, and Muir to deal with, and with power to act. lr Hare said that lifr G, Beetham. M. H,R„ and the Hon Mr Ballarice' "had given them most valuable assistance in getting the ten acres of land. He moved, That the thanks of this meeting are due to Mr Ballance, and to Mr G, Beetham, member for the district, for the valuable assistance they had given in securing to Masterton the additional ten acres of land for recreation purposes. He said that both really deserved it,—Carried. The Chairman moved,' That'the thanks, of the meeting are due to Mr' Hare for the care and determination exercised by him in getting the 10 acres, There was

no doubt Mr Haro's services had been invaluable to them. The motion was-carried. ~ said that there was some land, being aportion of the Manaia' Estate, to bo submitted by auction at an early date, and he asked whether it would not be as well to invest some of the special fund in it if they could obtaiira portion of the land at a reasonable price' ' ' lirwas resolved tp allow the matter to stand over till the plans have been issued.
