The Wairarapa Daily. THURSDAY, DECEMBER 3, 1885.

At a special meting of the Wairarapa West County Council held yesterday, Cr W, Booth was elected Chairman. The quarterly inspection of the Greytown volunteers, was made by Lieutenant Colonel Butts and Major Bunny yesterday. A Christinas tree will be erected in the Theatre Royal on December 23rd, on which there aro to be two hundred prizes. There will also be a dance. The admission is to be 2s Cd for adults and Is 3d for children, and the funds will be devoted to paying the interest on St, Matthew's Church debt,

The monthly meeting of the North Wairarapa Benevolent Society was held yesterday afternoon, Present—Rev. W, E. Paige (in the chair), Rev, J, N, Buttle, Mesdames Paige and Gapper, Miss Beard, and Mr T. C. D'Arcy (Secretary), The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, ' The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £2619s lid. There was no correspondence. Accounts amounting to £lO 7s were passed for payment, The case of a man who has been on the books for some time, and is receiving medical attendance, was considered, and it was resolved that the present rate of assistance be continued, A new case, that' of a woman with six children, whose husband went Home some time ago, was brought up. The Chairman stated that the Secretary had been authorised to pay £1 per week, and he moved that the same rate be paid for two or three weeks. The case of the carpenter and his family who came from Canterbury some time ago, again came up, the Secretary stating that the man was again very ill, and that he had found it necessary to give further relief. It was resolved that, the relief he continued. Tho Chairman stated that Mrs Osborne, for whom a sum o f money was raised on the death of her husband, was about to remarry, and the question arose what they should do with the sum of between £6O and £7O which had been reserved for the benefit of the children, He moved that the money be held for the benefit of the children until necessity for its expenditure should arise. The motion was carried, Several permanent cases having been dealt with the meeting terminated.

The next sitting of the District Cour,t has been adiourned to the lGfc inst, The local Lodge of Foresters holds it usual fortnightly meeting to-night,

This is jthe best inducement wo have ever yet met with, and ought to induce every one to purchase drapery, millinery, and clothing from L, J.- Hooper & Co., Bon Marche, the cheapest and best drapers and clothiers in the Wairarapa.—Advt,
