ANOTHER SOP.
The present Government apparently sympathises withMr H, Bpray inliis involuntary absence from Parliament, for we notice tbatit ibrows him a sop whenever the opportunity offers. The last of these is that he has been appointed census enumerator for the two Wairarapa Counties, The praotice has latterly been to have the work performed under the superintendence of Resident Magistrates, or the Olerks of the Resident Magistrate's Courts, and we find, ol reference to the list of appointments, that it has been pursued in nearly all other districts of the colony. We should like to know why the practice was departed from in the
cuse of fclie Wairarapu. We feel assured that no excoption could be taken to the qualifications of the Government officers of the district, and that either of them would have done the work more economically than the present appointee.
