DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
<■ The annual firing for district prizes took place at Featherston on Saturday. A fresh North' West wind was blowing at thetime, and interfered with the shooting. Besides 'this the average compared with last year ought not to v be taken as a sign
that the shooting is getting worse, as it must be remembered that over 20 members competed this year who were not in the force at last firing. Much more interest ia infused into these competitions whon all meet on' the one range, as will be seen from the number (if competitors, there being 57, against 35 last year, but then there is an additional corps still that would not account for the whole of the increase from last year. . The ten highest on the list take prizes ranging from £5 down to 8s 9d. Although the prizes are not great, the honor of pulling them off is as great as if they were much larger.
