Daniel O'Rourke won the Canterbury Derby and Cup, in 1876, and is by Slcdmere (imported), from Brunette (imported), who is also dam of Tadmor, the Canterbury Derby winner of 1874 DANIEL is a bay horse, and is C years old, standing over 16 bauds high, good constitution, and if good shape, size, and performance go for anything, this son of Daniel O'Rourke should beget the class of horses required in the Wairarapa. He is just the class of horse to got either cross country horses, race horses, or weightcarrying hacks, according to the class of mare put to him, His first season on the turf, he won the Flying Handicap at Marlborough, with Bst 41bs up, also Sporting Handicap at same meeting Bst, and after a serving season won County Cup at Kaikoura, 1J miles, with lOst up, and won Consolation Handicap at Heefton same season; also ran second to Orlando for Maiden Plate at Nelson, w.f.a, ; at Wairarapa Spring Meeting, 82-3, was second to Kakapo fist Mbs for Comity Handicap, and won Maiden Stakes 9st 21bs, beating Makora, First Water, and six others J at Island Bay he was second to'Bewi, welter w.f.a,,. also at same mooting ran second to Camellia. At MastertonOpaki, won Railway Handicap Bst lOlbs, G furlongs in lmin 18sec. Orphan Oat 71ba, second, Romp, Gst Gibs, third, and was second to Kakapo Bst9lbs, for Opaki Handicap, DAN'S weight being Bst Gibs. At Reef ton Summer he was second for the Inangahua Cup, 9st, won by Satellite, 9st 41bs, won J.O, Handicap, list lOlbs, beating Field, Bst Gibs, Satellite, flstlOlbs, and another. He also won Railway Plate at Mm, arid ran in several other races, there, and has ahvays shown he was hard to beat, and could always carry weight and race with it. He also gained second prize at the Wairarapa Agricultural Show in 1884, beating Premier, Voltigeur, and Crawford Priory.
