THE NICOTINE SHEEP DIP.

~—« We extract the following from the N.Z, Hera M:-" On Saturday Mr W. Graham and Mr Oldham, Sheep Inspeo-~»-tor, drove out to the farm of. Mr Bogers ■ to inspect-a small flock of shapp, ewes and lambs, on which experiments had been made with a new dip, known as the "'Nicotine"- dip," made entirely from tobacco, and much used and esteemed in ' the La Plata and North America, .which had been brought to the notice of the ■ North New Zealand Farmers' Co-opera-tive Association, It had been determined to give the dip a trial before offering it to the public, and the result as ascertained on Saturday from examination of the ' sheep was not satisfactory, both tice and ticks being found pn every sheep examined. Mr Rogers states that for' some days after the sheep were dipped, " they gave up rubbing, and it appeared as if they had been cured, but after a short-, v; . while.they became as bad as ever again., i K2, .It would thus appear that while the dip ?; was strong enough to destroy the live vermin, the eggs remained uninjured. •Another trial is to be made upon the same flock, Mr Oldham being present when the dipping process is carried out. The advantage, if the' dip could be used with success, would be that it is not poisonons, and could be manufactured in ■ the colony from New Zealand grown . tobacco.
