CORRESPONDENCE.
: —G (To the Editor,)
Sir.—Will you kindly allowme, through the columns of your paper, to call public attention to that most worthy object, the assisting of the homes in London, founded by Dr Barnardo, to alleviate the sufferings. of the destitute boys and girls, of which there are so many in that great city. There are in connection with these institutions 30 cottage homes for girls, and they have, since their foundation, rescued about 5,000 children of both sexes, and provided them with a Christian and in--dustrial training; and, as there are no endowments, the whole work is depending solely upon the free, will offerings of the benevolent. Dr Barnardo is at the present time soliciting assistance from the more affluent residents of the Colony, and I feel sure that hardly any one will neglect to send a trifle to augument the funds of these- institutions, which are so much needed just now. I am pleased to record that the matter is being earnestly "taken, up by several ladies and gentlemen in the Wairarapa. Among those whom I know to have given it their'kind attention are Mr J. 0. Bidwill, of Te Maire, and Mrs C. R, Bidwill, of Pihautea, and I believe that from these sources alone quite a donation was forwarded by a Post Office order the last mail homeward. I also understand that MrH. H. Beetham, of Brancepetih, has been particularly successful in obtaining subscriptions for the same object, and there are, doubtless, many others that I have not had the pleasure of hearing about. - In conclusion, I would urge anyone that can spare a : trifle to forward it to Dr Barnardo, or to W. Fowler, Esq., M.P. E.C., London, Yours, etc., W.S.W.
