THE MAYORALTY.
A requisition signed by ninety-five ratepayers has been presented to Mr JI, Cabelbeug asking him to allow himself to be nominated for a second term for the Mayoralty, arid Mr Caselberg bas issued a reply acceding to the request, Mr Caselberg states that it was not his intention to stand for a second term, but as there are very important works in hand; which have been started since he has occupied the Mayoral chair, and all the present councillors have signed the requisition, he has' deemed it-his duty to comply with the wishes expressed by the burgesses. Wo think Mr Caselberg has taken a very commendable co.urse. By vii lue of his position he must necessaril) be better acquainted with the works ihat are in progress and the- state o. the finances, than any other member i \ the Council. Moreover, he has al.vays taken pains to perform his duties to the best of his ability. There has not been a subject brought up for the consideration of the Council during the past year which he has not thoroughly Studied, and he has by this means placed hiirffclf in the position of be ng really a fflder of the Council, By complying with the requisition Mr Caselberg studies the interest of the ratepayers, and not his own, It \H extremely unlikely that there will he any opposition,
