Feist, and ike other Burgesses who hate signed the above requisition, QENTLEMEN, In answer to your requisition to be nominated as Mayor for a second term of office, I may state that it was not my intention to have come forward, holding the view, that the office should be filled successively by Burgesses having the confidence of their fellow ratepayers, especially those who have given their services to tlio Borough as Councillors, But as so very large a number ofrny fellow-Burgesses and (as 1 have been plven to. understand) the whole of the Oounoillors have signified their wish that I should again fill the office of Mayor, I consider it my duty to comply with the requisition. Feeling gratified that my actions <is Mayor during my term of office have met with your approval, and that 1 have merited a continuance of your confidence, if I have the honor of being again elected/ I can only state that I will endeavor as hitherto to do my duty to the best of my ability, bo as to aid in promoting the welfare and progress of the whole of the Borough, and to work with your Councillors in the same courteous and amicable manner as in my previous twin of office, and I will assist your Council to successfully complete the large works, inaugurated "during my term of office viz. the Gas Works, and also any other works that may be conducive to the health and prosperity of the Borough. 1 intend to invite the Burgesses to a public meeting shortly, when 1 will fully give an account of my stewardship, and discuss the future requirements of the Borough viz a more efficient means of extinguishing fires, and a water supply. • \ 1 am gentlemen,.
