The weekly returns of the Bank of .England show the proportion of reserve liabilities to be 42 per cent., and the total reserve in notes and bullion £11,180,000.
Svdney, November 13. The Hon Mr Thornton has been appointed Minister of Mines, which'portfolio was previously held by Mr F. A. Wright, but resigned by liim after his defeat at the general election, Mr Thornton will be the representative of the Government in the Legislative Council,
Rangoon, November 12th. The proclamation issued by King Theebaw summonses his subjects to fight the English, but admonishes them to kill none until they have crossed the Burmese frontier, (treat uneasiness is felt in Mandalay, and European residents are leaving as rapidly as possible, no hindrance being offered to their movements by the Burmese.
