United Press Association, Westport, this day. A serious shootih? case occurred at Waimangaroa, 10 miles from here last evening. A party of colliers under the influence of liquor were attempting to get into a house occupied by a woman named Mary Ambrose, wherein was a Frenchman named Peron. A disturbance occurred, and subsequently one of the party named Thomas Smart went to the back to search for his mates, Upon his knocking at the door it was opened, and a shot was fired, striking Smart in the shoulder and inflicting, a serious, thuugh not dangerous, wound. Peron is in custody.
