UPPER TAUERU ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the UpperTauern Road Bqard was held on Monday at Bowlands. Hawkins (chairman),- Hood, Perry, Rutherford, and Wingate. # The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
Messrs Rutherford and Hood proposed , and seconded that Mr Farrer be appointed clerk and collector to tho Board on an j annual salary of £l6, Mr Rutherford subsequently withdrew his motion, and it was resolved, That the chairman lie appointed collector, and that his appointment bo declared to date from July 6th last, The question of security was allowed to stand over to a future period. , ; k The following "accounts were passed for , payment Messrs Smith '& Hogg, £1 fa [ Cd; Lyon & Blair, JJ2l2s 6d; Postages, : 14s p; John Thompson (clearing slips -j J . ■
on Hood's line), £3 10s 4dJ. Vile, (culvert) £l. t j The Education Board wrote to the effect that they had no funds to pay their rates. ' '
It was resolved that this Board confer with the County Council and the Alfredton Board with a view to taking combined action to enforce the payment of rates. Resolved, That the County Engineer be instructed to lay off the road on Vile and Miller's line to the best convenience of the settlers on that line.
Mr Wingate applied for £ls to continue opening up his line. The sum of £lO was granted. . ■ A sum of £8 was granted to Mi* Miller" in order to put his and Vile's trick in order, commencing from the boundary, ik. A letter, was read from Mr'McKa^j
requesting that the tracks above fiood'a should be widened sufficiently for a dray.
The Board was of opinion that they had not sufficient funds to carry through such an expensive work.
Resolved, That Messrs Hood and Rutherford pay the expenses .of the survey of the extension of the BidefordAlfredton line, aud that; the costs be debited to the account that ' Mr Rutherfurd applied for £2O to open his track, Resolved, That Mr McLoughliii be requested to go over'the road from Mackay's on, and report on what work is required, the cost to be £ls. That the Chairman employ any compe-", tent mail to do the required work.
