United Pkess Association, Wellington, October 30. The Marine Department has received the following telegram from the harbor master at Greymouth The master of the steamer Oreti reports that while coasting close into shore he observed the hull of a vessel of about 60 tons close to the beach between Rocks-Point and Remarkable Slip. Nobody was seen about the vessel, which looks as if it had been beached. Wellington, This day. A man named J. S. Jones, farmer, died at Paikakariki this morning from the effects, it is supposed, of a fall from his horse. Christchuroh, This day. A meeting was held last night under the presidency of the Dean to consider the question of granting a half holiday to employees in retail establishments on Thursday afternoons. On the motion of Sir Julius Vogel a resolution to the effect that the support this proposition has received from employers warrants the grating of half a holiday, and that Thursday 19th of November be the first Thursday on which half holidays be granted, was carried.
