By King Tom, sire of Mermaid (dam of, Lurline), dam Qui Vive, (sister to Yedette,) by Yoltigeur, out of Mrs Ridgway by Irish Birdcatcher. King Cole was a first-class performer on the English turf. He made his debut as a II IBG-yG&P-old at Ascot, where he won. the Ascot Derby and St. James' Palace Stakes. As a four-year-old he won the Cumberland, Plate, and defeated the Derby winner, Kingcraft, at level weights over two miles at Newmarket. His own brother, King Lud, was sold by auction to go to the stud for 0000 guineas. An inspection of Voltigeur's tabulated pedigree will shew that he is full of Emilias blood-sire of Riddlesworth. Daniel O'Rourke won the Canterbury Derby and Cup, in 1875, and is by_ Sledmere (imported), from Brunette (importeu), who is also dam of Tadmor, the Canterbury Derby winner of 1874, DANIEL is' a bay horse, and is 6 years old, standing over 16 hands high, good constitution, and if good shape, size, and performance go for anything, this son of Daniel O'Rourke should beget the class of horses required in the "Waira* rapa, He is just the class of horse to get either cross country horses, race horses, or weightcarrying hacks, according to the class of maro put to him. _ His first season on the turf, he won the Flying Handicap at Marlborough, with Bst 41bs up, also Sporting Handicap at same meeting Bst, and after a serving season won County Cup at Kaikoura, miles, with lOst up, and won Consolation Handicap at Reefton same season; also ran second to Orlando for Maiden Plate at Nelson, w,f,a, jat Wairarapa Spring Meeting, 88-3, w second to Kakapo Bst lQlbs for County Handicap, and won Maiden Stakes 9st 21bs, beating Makora, First "Water, and six others j at Island Bay ho was second to Rewi, welter w.f.a,, also at same meeting ran second to Camellia. At MastertonOpaki, won Railway Handicap Bst lOlbs, 6 furlongs in lmin 18sec, Orphan 9st 71bs, second, Romp, Gst Gibs, third, and was second to Kakapo Sst Dibs, for Opaki Handicap, DAN'S weight being Bst Gibs, At Reefton Summer he was second for the Inangalnia Cup, 9st, won by Satellite, 9st 41bs, won J.C, Handicap, i)st lOlbs, beating Field, BstClbs, Satellite, DstlOlbs, and another, He also won Railway Plate at Nelson, and ran in several other races there, and has always shown he was hard to beat, and could always carry weight and race with it.
