King Cole was a first-class performer on the English turf. He made his debut as a h roe-year-old at Ascot, where he won the Ascot Derby and St. James' Palace Stakes. As a four-year-old he won the Cumberland Plate, and defeated the Derby winner, Kingcraft, at level weights over two miles at Newmarket. DANIEL O'CONNELL was bred by Mr Murphy, of Marlborough, and is by Daniel O'Rourke, from Plover, by Sir Hercules, Plover is also dam of Malvina, Hercules, and other winners, see N.Z, Stud Book, Vol. G. Daniel O'Rourko won the Canterbury Derby and Cup, in 1875, and is by Slodmere (imported), from Brunette (imported), who is also dam of Tadmor, the Canterbury Derby winner of 1874. DANIEL is a bay horse, and is C years old, standing over 1G hands high, good constitution, and if good ehnpe, size, and performance go for anything, this son of Daniel O'Rourke should beget the class of horses required in the Vairarapa. He is just the class of horse to get either cross country horses, race horses, or weightcarrying hacks, according to tho class of marc put to him. His first season ou the turf, he won the Flying Handicap at Marlborough, with Bst 4lbs up, also Sporting Handicap at same meeting Bst, and after a serving season won County Cup at Kaikoura, 1J miles, with lOst up, and won Consolation Handicap at Reefton same season; also ran second to Orlando for Maiden Plate at Nelson, w.f.a, ; at AVairarapa Spring Meeting, 82-3, was Becond to Kakapo S»t_ lOlbs for County Handicap, and won Maiden Stakes 9at 21bs, beating Makora, First Water, and six others; at Island Bay he was second to Rewi, welter w.f.a., also at same meeting ran second to Camellia. At MastertonOpaki, won Railway Handicap Bst lOlbs, 6 furlongs in lmin 18sec. Orphan 9st 71bs, second, Romp, fist Gibs, third, and was second to Kakapo Bst 91bs, for Opaki Handicap, DAN'S weight being Bst Gibs. At Reefton Summer he was second for tho Inangalma Cup, 9st, won by Satellite, 9st 41bs, won J,C, Handicap, !)st lOlbs, beating Field, Bst Gibs, Satellite, OstlOlbs, and another. He also won Railway Plate at Nelson, and ran in several other races there, and has always shown he was hard to beat, and could always carry weight and race with it. He also gained second prize at the Vairarapa Agricultural Show in 18S4, beating Premier, Voltigeur, and Crawford Priory. He has grand action, a very mildtemper, aaound constitution, andisfreefrom all natural blemishes, and being descended from celebrated ancestors (see tabulated pedigreo) is well qualified to be a breeder of first-class stock.
