The Times says that during the hearing of the civil business at the Resident Magistrate's Court MrFitzGeraldcomplained that the defendants a case where the summons had not been served was the bailiff at the Masterton Court, who made a practice of not serving himself. He usually took a holiday on these oooasions, and various tradesmen in Wellington were consequently unable to prosecute their claims against him, Mr Wardell said the gentleman alluded to was absent on leave. Mr Fitzgerald said the leave of absence was only for a few days, and there should have been time to serve the defendant. Tins matter required the attention qf the Justice Department.
