THE GREAT LAND SERPENT.
. <w The dull season being at have been (says the Globe) anxiously looking for the customary appearance of the great sea serpent. With much pleasure, therefore, we have to report that the interesting serpent has made its appearance, at a place called Cefu, in Wales. As this ia some way inland, our old friend would appear to have changed his habits, being tired, perhaps, of cruising about in the oceau. Local description is rather vague as to its dimensions. All accounts, agreo however, that it is by far the biggest thing in snakes ever seen in those'parts, On one occasion a native came across the monster lying asleep in the sun, with 1 one eye open, after the traditional manner of a genuine Bristolian, That awful -optic was fixed on a flook of sheep, and it seems possible, therefore, that the serpent oame' ashore for a change of diet. After a hundred years or so, it would naturally wish for something else than whale 3 and hammer-headed Bharks, which are supposed, we believe, to constitute its ordinary food. The report does not mention whether the browsing muttons were swallowed; that addition will 001119 in due time, no doubt. Wo are able tu announce, however, 011 the highest authority, that a devoted band of Traffies have sworn to slay the reptile, or perish in the attempt. No need should, therefore, be given to the foolish rumour that the' interminable monster is not a snake at, all, but merely a polysyllabic Weigh word which happened to go, astray,
