DEATH OF AN OLD GREYTOWN RESIDENT.

On July 24th of this year there died at. Romford, Essex, England, a lady who vill i be well remembered by the oldest settlers in the Wairarapa,' viz., Mrs Tinnoth, • formerly Mrs Moles. Mr and Mrs Moles. came to this colony from Tasmania in the year 1854, and settled in Greytown in the year 1886, where they opened the first general store established in the town. Soon after Mr Moles' death, at the age of 47 (about twelve years ago,; Mrs Moles left the colony for England, where, after being two years a widow, she married Mr Tinnoth, who survives her. Mr and Mrs Moles, during their sojourn in Greytown, won the respect M&esteera of all who knew them. TheJFhad no family, and their only relation in the colony was a niece, now married to a Chemist in Wanganui. When the Moles' first came to Greytown there wero no houses or places of shelter whatever, and they used to relate how they were compelled to spend the first night after arrival in a paddock or space near the site now stands Mrs Hastwell's residenrajrunder no other shelter than that of an umbrella, The deceased lady, at the time of her death, still retained her interest in some property in Greytown, and was also sup. posed to own some land at Opaki, The lady was only ill one week before her death, although she was weakly for some time. The first building started as a store by Mr Moles is still standing, and is adjacent to where Mrs Mercer now resides, having been occupied by several storekeepers since.—Standard.
