Messrs Charles Pownall and Co., Mortgage agents, Wellington, report the money market in a stagnant state during last month, the demand being contracted, with an ample supply of capital offering to meet moderate demands for mortgage investment at from CJ to 7 per cent. A largo amount of Government Insurance and Public Trust Funds could 'now be placed on the highest class of securities advantageously, but the extravagant margin demanded, naturally debars intending mortgagors from locking up properties for a term of years on such stringent conditions, which would be fatal during tlio interval to fuither improvements, The probability of arrangements with the Home market being completed for a direct supply of capital upon more favorable terms, will place our large station holders in a far better position than they are at present likely to acquire hero.
