Melbourne, Septeiiiber i 5. Advices have been received here from Wilson's Promontory Btating that, at 2 o'clock this afternoon, Captain Thompson, of the Greenock steamship Gulf of Carpentaria (1696 tons), arrived with the boats belonging to that vessel. He reports that the Gulf of Carpentaria was bound from Newcastle to London, via Adelaide, and while off Cleft Island she struck on a rock not mai'ked on the chart... Tho. vessel became a total wreck, and sank in thirty fathoms of water within three hours of her striking. The crew took to the boats, and effected a landing at Wilson's Promontory. The disaster was fortunately unattended by loss of life. Constantinople, September 15.
Sir Henry Drummond Wolff, Envoy Extraordinary to the Porte, has had four meetiugs with the officials appointed by the Sultan to confer with him on the Egyptian question, but so far no definite result has been attained,
Cairo, September 15.
It is currently reported here that Said Pasha, Grand Vizier of Turkey, has been ordered by the Sultan to visit Egypt, but the news has not been officially confirmed. Paris, September 15.
. The Government are in receipt of despatches from General E. De Courcy commanding the French forces in Tonquin, stating that in consequence of the recent attack on the citadel at Hue by the Annamite troops, he,(General de Courcy) has dethroned the reigning- king, and placed Shan Dong on the throne in Ais stead.

The German Admiralty is engaged in the equipment of a special squadron for service on the Atlantic station. The vessels will be ready for sea shortly. London,-September 14.
3 per cent, Consols remain at 100|. Market rate discount is 18s 4d or Is 4d below bank rate. There is no quotable variation colonial stocks. Adelaide wheat shows an increase of 6d, and is' quoted at 30s oX'wehoußO, and 34s 6d off coast. New Zealand wheat unchanged.
At the wool sales to-day 9600 bales were, catalogued. The market is still dull.
