A TRUE BRITISH TAR.
On the subject of quarantine regulations in Fgypfc, a very good story is told, says "Fairplay," of the captain of one of the ships belonging to the Anchor Line. This gentleman, having arrived from a suspected port, was immediately placed in quarantine, and, to ensure his observance of the rules of the' port, and his good conduct generally, he had to anchor his | ship under the guns of a Turkish-eoratte, the captain of the latter having™® our Anchor friend notice that if hraHnpted to move from his berth he would be fired into. This was rather rough for the captain. Still he bore withlheevilpatiently for a certain number of days, and then he began to get restive. He did not trouble himself much about telegraphing home for orders, or if he did, nothing has ever been made known on the subject; but having fairly weighed the question out, and taken the measure of the'corvette, ho sent notice to the captain of that redoubtable vessel that ho was about to get up steam and start, and that if a single shot were fired at him he would run into the corvette and sink her. While the Turk was considering whether it was likely any Englishman would do such a thing without first consulting his Foreign Office,"tho Anchor man was off, and the Turk is still thinking.
