A practice of the Masterton Fire Brigade takes place this evening. The Skating Rink was again well patronized last night. It will now be closed till Saturday. Messrs Knowles and Nicholson, of Carterton, were the successful tenderers for splitting 10,000 posts as advertised for by Mr T, A. Lyons. Captain Edwin telegraphs at noon Bad weather between North and West and South West glass fall; again, but risings after 10 hours; indications bad.
Mr J. Ransome, chimney-sweep has had a box placed at the corner of the Police Station for the convenience of persons wanting to give notice when their chimneys require sweeping.
Messrs Lowes & lorns announce the sale,'for Saturday next, of a large bankrupt stock of jewelry, the property of Mr Herman, who is well-known in the district, having paid several visits to it during the last four years. Mr Herman has removed the stock from another market for convenience of sale.
Mr F, H, Wood's fortnightly stock sale at Ray's Yards, Taratahi, takes place to-morrow, commencing at 1 p.tn, - A larg3 list of cattle of all descriptions, and sheep, horses, pigs, and implements have been returned, and a largo attendance of buyers may therefore ho looked for. Messrs Littlojolin and Son have just received a largo consignment of "Tho Bee" alarm clock, which is the smallest alarm clock imported, while for a timekeeper cannot be beaten. It works on the lever principle; and can be carried in a carriage or swag. It is especially useful to surveyors, bushfallers, and travellers generally. It is probable that Messrs Heron, Mason, and Perry will -join in calling a meeting of ratepayers to .explain their views with regard to. their candidature for seats in the Borough Council. Such a course would be very desirable, as the ratepayers would then bo able to decide as to which three of the candidates should be returned.
As will be seen by an announcement in our advertising columns, Mr F. H, Wood has received instructions to sell at Mr Nicol's house, Church-st,, on Monday next', all the furniture and effects, of the present resident, who is leaving the district. The items enumerated are of a description that should attract buyers, and a large and satisfactory sale may be anticipated. The annual general meeting of shareholders of tho Taratahi Dairy Company was held at the Factory last night. There were about 25 shareholders present, and Mr W._ Francis was voted to the chair. The minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed. The report and balance sheet as submitted wete adopted. The election of two directors (in the place of W, C. Buchanan, M.H.R., and J. H. G rattan) who retire, then took place. Messrs H. Oiilliater and S. M. Hart were the successful candidates. The directors informed the milk suppliers that they would have to reduce the price of the milk supplied to the Factory to 3|d tho gallon of 10£ lbs, which created a good deal of .discussion, and after several resolutions and amendments had been proposed, it was finallv settled that the price be reduced to 3|d per gallon, and the milk suppliers to hav. - the whey free of charge. Messrs F. W. R. Seed and F, Feist were proposed as auditors, the latter being elected. Tin fee is to be two guineas. A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to th'directors for their successful management during the past year, also a vote o thanks to tho Manager and Chairman, and the meeting then terminated.
