GERMAN TYRANNY AND A CRUELTY.

THIRTY THOUSAND POLES EXPELLED FROM PRUSSIA. A Vienna correspondent, telegraphing on May 23, says ;—Letters from Poaen and Silesia give harrowing details of the panic and misery caused throughout the 'Polish population by tho resolution of the Prussian Government to expel an immense number of Poles who have immigrated into these districts of old Poland, principally • from Russia, during recent yearß. Whole villages will bo depopulated,- and the wretched inhabitants escorted by Prussian' troops to the frontiers, where they will be met by the Russian officials and polico, "charged to superintend their resettlement." Many individuals and a certain number af families are succeeding in flying into Austrian territory, but the vast mass of the expelled familidfthave no such resource. Throughout SRsian Poland, the terrible intelligence has cast a chill of despair, as it destroys the last hope of the most miserable. Prussia ia now to be as inexorable as Siberia. TW expulsions will proceed according to tw* categories, in conformity with the system announced in the speech of Herr yon Puttkamer, Minister of the Interior. All those Poles who ha"e simply immigrated must return without cvgrthmhuk( elay, bufca certain tiijie for preparation will begran ted to the settlers who had previously obtained licenses for residence in Prussia, which are now revoked, The following sentence from the speech of Herr von Puttkammer are reproduced in all the official organs, and contain the official estimate of the number of intended victims The measure which the Government has adopted arises from no caprice, but from deliberate convictions of the requirements of public security and German culture. As regards the number of persons affected, about 3,000 foreigners are to be expelled. Some 22,000 of these have obtained permits of settlements, and will accordingly receive a certain respite to allow them ;k complete their arrangements for Sjffoval. As for the 8000 others who have received no such permits, the Government -does not recognise any obligation to treat ISitn with consideration.
