THE HARBOR BOARD ENDOWMENT.
To THE EDITOR Sik,—l am much pleased to read in your issue of yesterday a letter from Mr Vile, who appears to appreciate oorrectly the position of affairs re endowments generally, and also the position of' the proposed endowment for the "Wellington Harbor Board. 1 endeavored to deal on Wednesday with the endowments to be sot apart for hospitals and charitable aid in the manner I have before indicated, but as the clause I wished to move was an appropriation clause, I could not move it without the consent of the Government, This consent Mr Stout would not give, but ho promised to give me an opportunity to move a clause embodying my principle in the Land Bill when it comes up for discussion, 1 also understood him to say that he would give me his support, so that I hope that, with the assistance of many others that I know think as I do on the endowment question, that we shall be able to deal with all endowments in a reasonable manner, and prevent tjie continuances of the evils in the future! that ■ all admit wo have suffered from in the past. lam, &c., George Beetham. Wellington, August 14th, 1885,
