The Distress Bill was committed and reported. The Napier Harbor Bill, and Sydenham Public Works Loan Bill, were read a third time and passed, On the motion for the reading of the School Committees Election Bill, Sir F, Whitalcer moved that the Bill be iteimmitted, so as to alter the title, owfif to the alterations made in the Bill while in Committee. The motion was agreed to and the title was altered to Education' Act. Amendment Bill. The Council adjourned at 5,, till. 7.30. p.m. ; ... EVENING SITTING. The Dunedin Cattle. Market Reserve Leasing Bill, Otago Harbor Board Leasing Bill, and Invercargill Loan Consolidation Bill wero read a third time and paused. The Lifo Assurance Policies Bill was read a second time. The Auckland University College Bill, and Wellington Corporation Leasehold Bill wore read a third-time and passed. The Council adjourned at 10 p.m. j HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, Tho Houwmefc at 2,30 p.m. Replying to questions, it was stated ; that the Government found that .railway lamps were made quite as wqti/Yiime Colony as in England, and it ftu ivt intended to order any more fro# land. •• Mr Richardson moved that.the roads which wero srazetted as main roads on the 26th and 31st March, 1885, be declared ■ to be main roada in terms of section V of the Riadi and Bridges Construction Act, 1882.—Agreed to. The House went into Committee to consider the appropriation clauses of the Hospital and Charitable Institutions Bill. A lengthy discussion ensued on the motion fur the alteration of the schedules neces- V
sitated by the previous night's discussion. The motion was finally carried by 53 to 17. Several other new clauses, were added to the Bill with somo Blight amendments. Considerable debate resulted on clause 32, providing for annual subsidies, Mr W. White moved to strike out&e years as the time for which, subsmies shall be payable, but the amcnmnt was negatived on the voices, Mr White then moved that the Chairman leave the chair, but the amendment was again lost on the voices.

In Committee, on the Hospital and j Charitable Aid Bill, the Wairarapa East and West Counties were struck out of the Wellington District, and the Bill as amended was reported, read a. third time, and pmiad.
