RUSSIAN TRADE.
Recently the Russian newspapers have contained several articles giving gloomy accounts of the prospects of Russian trade in both Siberia and Central Asia, The "Moscow Gazette" states that the amount of trade passing through Kiachta, which has long been diminishing, is now absolutely insignificant. The cause* ; this are paid to be the ooat of transpqflHr'l ■ and the exosssiva commissions levied on?v 1 each article. It is said that the cost of merchandise always doublcsandiometimes trebles, between Kiachta'and Mosoovr. The Russian writer gees on to deaoribe.wh'&t. hMbeendonebymeansofthereducedtariff : of the Volunteer Fleet to benefit Russian commerce in China, but he is constrained■■ to come to the conclusion that the only important article which has been bene-' nted by these efforts is tea.' Affairs are no" better in Central Asia. The "'St. PetersburgGazette" publishes lettersjfrom Tashkend giving a very gloomy account of the stufe of trade in Turkestan.
