E, Paige, Mr \y. H. Beetham, and Mr D'Arcy (secretary). The statement of accounts showed that there was an overdraft at the Bank of £5 3s 9d, and that the amount due from the Government was £15313s 6d. With regard to a case in which a lump sum of £5 had been voted to a woman who had informed the Society that she would thus be able to go off the. books, it was stated that she was dissatisfied, and thought that Bhe was entitled to the sub-, scriptions on her behalf, and the subsidy' as well. The Rev W. E. Paige explained that there was a distinct understanding that the subsidy would go to the funds of the Society. She really lost nothing by the'amount passing through the hands of the Society, while the Society gained. The Chairman thought that they should have this thoroughly understood in future cases, ■ The Rev Mr Paige said that the whole of the money collected, and twothirds of the subsidy, had been paid over. The matter was then allowed to drop. Some discussion took place as to whether persons who were on the books' should be allowed to vary; the order for rations, so that they might pay for rent, firewood, etc. The matter was left to the discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary reported that-a woman: who was to, have been sent to her husband in Australia did not care to go, as he had left her on several- previous occasions, and also ill-used her, She was beginning to do better now.
