We remind the public of the lecture which is to be delivered at the Wesleyau Church, by the Rev Mr Rishworth this evening. There will be no fee for admission, but a collection will be made.

Mr McCardle has a way of sticking to certain things with a tenacity that is not always advantageous. At last night's meeting, lie could, not resist the temptation to repeat that wo had stated that there was a " scene" at the Land Board. With a pertinacity equal to his own, we will once more inform him that he is in. error. Wo never used the word, nor anything approaching it, When Mr McCardle made the aasortion for the first time, lie might have been labouring under 11 misapprehension, but that excuse cannot avail him now.
The JanctNicollraturnedfrom islandsto Auckland to-day with tho delegates sent by the Chambers of Commerce, and the Press Association's special correspondent reports that the delegates were quite satisfied that a great field for commercial enterprise exists in these islands, and if New Zealand is not to bo out run in this race it must establish commercial relations on a systematic basis before the opening of the Panama Canal. Tonga the English influence is steadily Supplanting German, and the Government seeks to enter into closer communicatio'n with New Zealand. In Samoa the Germ an pressure is slowly driving tho natives to seek shelter under the protection of Ei lgland, and the German trado, though at present superior to the English, is slowly declining. In Tavito and French Pol ynesia there is every desire to strengthen tho relations with New Zealand, rnd in the Cook group; where the trado is principally absorbed by this colony, thi m is overy indication, in favor of binding; the. whole of the islands to New Zealau J by moans of a trading company.
