Colonel Brett then read the paper in question, which made serious charges in connection with the administration of the Cliristchyrch Hospital. The question then dropped. The Public Works Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. -The Council adjourned at 4.55 p.m.

The Sydenham Public Works Loan Validation Bill parsed througlj Committee with verbal amendments, was read a third time and passed. The Wanganui Harbor Bill vas committed, reported with verbal amendments, read a third time, and passed. The Pate a Boarij Bill gasseij through Committee without Amendment. A lqng debate ensued on tlje motion for the third reading, which was eventually carried on division by 56 against 0. Mr Gbaoe moved the second reading of the Tauran?! Harbor Board Bill. Mr Levestjlm moved the second reading of the Employment of Females and Others Act Amendment Bill, Clause 3, providing that an R. M. may order females to; work overtime where shown necessary, was struck out. The Bill was then reported with amendments, The Financial Arrangements Act Amendment Bill was committed, ' A new. clause was added that moneys payable to Harbor Boards should form part of the Board funds; The Bill was then reported with amendments. The amendments'by -the Legislative Council in the Gaming and Lotteries Act Amendment Bill were agreed to, • Mr Larnaoh moved the Committal of the Mines Act 1877 Amendment Bill. Mr Rolleston asked how wbb the revenue of the gold districts to be recouped if the duty was abolished,- and the license fees reduced. .. Mr Larnaoh said the gold- duty abolition would come before' the Houso at a later period. With regard to Miner s Licenses etc., ho said that while travelline; through the West Coast the great cry was that the fees were too hight, and the Government had therefore thought they should take cognisance of representations. The House then went into Committee and the Bill was agreed to. with slight amendments and reported. V The House rose at 12.30. p.m.
