NORTH WAIRARAPA BENEVOLENT SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the Society was held at the Institute yesterday, his Worship the Mayor occupying the chair, and beyond five members of the committee, viz., Mrs Hacker, Miss Beard, the Revs Buttle, Fulton, and Paige, the Secretary (Mr T. C, D'Arcy), and a reporter, there was no one present, The minutes of the last annual meeting were read and confirmed. The following report was then read I have the honor to report that since the last annual meeting, held on . 3rd Juno, 1884, donations and grants in aid have been given to eleven different persons, to the amount of £9l 19s lid, and relief orders (principally on storekeepers for goods) to ten persons, to the amount of £9413s 7d, and the expenses oi management have been £9 19s (id, being a total expenditure of £19613s Gd, The receipts have amaunted to £ls(i 4s 3d, and Government subsidy £lO 9s, making a total of £172 13 3d—a deficiency of £24 0s 3d on the year's transactions—but the sum of £l5B lGs 3d is due for Government subsidy, against which there are liabilities amounting to £14318s lid, During the past year the committee decided to canvass for annual subscriptions, and I have collected the sum of £lB 325, of which £l6 ' lis has been collected since 18th instant, and 1 have been promised a further 'amount of £4 2s, The -following recommendations have been made by the committee for the annual meeting That the secretary's salary be increased to £lO per annum and 5 per cent commission on amounts collected by him; that in future meetings of the committee be held on the first Wednesday of each month. Suggestion by Mr R. Brown: That the secretary's residence and office hours be advertised, or steps taken to give it due publicity.—Thos. 0. D'Arov. The report and balance sheet were adopted. .Rev Mr Fulton moved, and Mrs Hacker seconded, that the report and balance sheet be adopted.—Carried. The Secretary read' the list of subscriptions to the Society for the current year, amounting to £22 14s. The election of a committee was then proceeded with. ; The Rev Mr Paige moved the re-election of the old Committee, with the exception of Miss CaverhiL Seconded by the Rev Mr Buttle and carried. Mrs Hacker nominated Mrs Arnot in the place of Miss Caverhill. Mr Buttlo seconded—Carried. Mr Paige moved that the Secretary's salary be £lO a year, and 6 per cent on all sums collected by himself. Seconded by Mr Caselberg, Mr Paige moved, That Mr T. C, D'Arcy be appointed Secretary at the salary stated, and Mr R. Brown Hon. Treasurer. Seconded by Rev. Mr Fulton and carried. Mr Caselberg moved and Mr Paige seconded, That the meetings take place on the first Wednesday in each' month.— Carried, Mr Caselberg moved that the Secretarybe authorised to expend the sum of 10s in advertising his address and hours of office.
