WELLINGTON STEEPLECHASE MEETING. The Steeplechase Meeting, held under the auspices of the Wellington Racing Club, on the Hutt Course, on Saturday, appears to have been highly successful. There was a large and fashionable attendance, large'fields, and close running almost all through. The double win of Faugh-a-Baliagh in the Trial and Wellington Steeplechase was, probably, a surprise to many, though it is no secret that those who know him have always declared that* if he could only be got to take his jumps kindly, it would be difficult to beat him. Apparently he took kindly to the work on Saturday, for he won what he wont for. His owner, Mr Dennett, had backed him the double, and took 500 to 15 in one bet, so that ho will be a good deal to the good over the meeting. The running of tho old Wairarapa horse, Romeo, was very good, and it is said that nothing but a .tumble over the last hurdle' lost ■ Mm one' (if t|ie rages,' Maccaroni,' the Napier winner, neyer showed up.
