"Murder!" This en? in a well-known hotel in Detroit, the other afternoon* proceedingfrom a room on the third floor, caught the ears of several chambermaids, and created irstant consternation. ''Oh I Heavens!"
It was the voice of a man who shrieked the words from room No. 40, and the chambermaids at once sent a messenger to the office with the news that murdor was being committed. " Dont kill me by inches!" These words alarmed others besides the chambermaids, and the group of three or four presently grew to a (km. Who occupied the room ? One ofWiambermaids recollected of seeing a beetle-browed ■man of general piratical hook, accompanied by a woman closely veiled, enter No. 40. Was lie killing her 1 "Oh! oh I you are killing ma!" Several of the crowd knocked on the door at once, and one of the chambermaids demanded in a falsetto voice that it be opened at once. There was a ha! ha! ha! from the veiled woman, and the voice of the man cried out
Wliat, do you mock at my misery?' A clerk came from the office and di manded admittauee in the name of tin law, the Continental Congress, and several other things, asd after some little delay the door was opened and a woman stood i ™ pe ™ g - and asked wllat ™ wanted.
