CASTLEPOINT ROAD BOARD.

The ordinary meeting of the Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs -Maunsell, Langdon, Meredith, and Harvey. In the absence of Mr Mackay, Mr Maunsell was voted to the chair. ' The minutes of the previous meeting .were read find confirmed.

■' The Treasurer reported a balance in the Bank of £ll7 Os 9d, and a balance ■available for future expenditure of £93 ,12s 3d, Accounts amounting to £5114s 4d were passed for payment, The Overseer's report was read ajvd. considered,.,;. (Jtoi -Correspondence was read as follows ™ From.the N.Z. Railway Reform League, with copy of petition to be presented to Parliament, praying for an alteration in the system of railway management; from ■the Colonial Secretary,, re the gazetting of the member for No. 6 Subdivision ; from Messrs Levin & Co., re rates on Manawa; from Telegraph Department, re repairs to the footpath in front of the Telegraph Office, Tinui; from County Clerk, re Engineer's services'; from conference on .local government questions; from same re price of timber on Taueru ( , road.. : $ ■ Mr Maunsell withdrew the notice of motion standing in his name. . ■ Resolved.—That this Board purchase the timber on the .Taueru road, at the price named by the County Engineer. That the consideration of the grant for expenditure between the main road and Mr Nicholl's slaughter-house be deferred till the member for the sub-divißion is present. " That this Board approve of the action of the N.Z. Railway Reform League in petitioning Parliament for an enquiry on the working of the railway system." : That a general rate of |d.in the poucflU be made and levied on, all rataun property in this district. ™ That the collector be instructed to take legal proceedings to recover all outstanding rates forthwith. That all members of the Board bo a Finance- Committee, two to form a quorum, and that all members be a Works: Committee, : three ■ toform, a' quorum. "... • The question of repairs at Office was postponed until next meeting. The next meeting: was fixed for Saturday the 25th'July.' Notice of motion by Mr Meredith: —■ That the members at next meeting name the district roads within their subdivisions where they desire the rates for the coming year allocated for expenditure, with a - view of appointing an executive committee to carry out the work.
