It seems highly improbable that the Minister of Public Works had made himself acquainted with the progress of the work when he stated in the House, in reply lo a question put by Mr Beetiiam, that the railway line to Dreyertown would beopeiied by the end of October, otherwise he could not lmve made snob a blunder, It is true that the whole of the ljue has been ready for platelaying for some time past; but there is not the slightest chance of the Waipoua bridge being finished, even by the end of the year. A sufficient number of men is engaged night and day 011 the work, and yet after about four months the first of six cylinders has not ken bottomed. Yesterday the hist section pub on was brought to the level which the top of the bridge is to take, and as the ground is fairly solid, work was stopped in order to obtain word from Wellington as to whether another section should be put on or not, The papa bottom' which is wanted appears to be lower down than was anticipated, and a good deal of extra work is, thus entailed, Those who should know best siiy that the, line cannot be opened before next year,
