Fat Cattle.—The pries? for beef are not quite equal to those of past season#. About 80 sold at from £7 2s Cd for heavy bullocks, .down to £4l6s for small beef, or about, 10s per'Wffths. Fat Cows—About. 50 soldfrom fa 10s for large cows, to £3 15s for young fat hoifers; fat calves, from 25s to 355,' according to age and quality. In store cattle tjie demand has been' a little more active than last season, and the prices a trifle better. We sold about 250 head forward steera from £3 IBs to£4ss ;2-year-olijs, from £2 IDs for inferior,. to £3 10s for good, well grown, and quiet; Roifers have been selling freely of late, tile demand being principally for quiet hand-reared, and prices ihave ruled from 45s to 50s j yearlings vary much, and they sold from 25s to 30; store cows 40s to 50s; dairy cows from 60s for aged ones, to £5 10,3 and £G for young, quiet cows, springing. sold from lis 3d to 12 Gd for gross fed, to 12s Gd and 13s Gd for turnip fed; fat ewes sold from 10s,to lis Gd ; store wethers havo reached high figures in proportion to fat, thoy ruling from 9s for Bmall, to lis 3d for forward sorts j early lambs, well kept and well woolled, reached as high as 9s, inferior kinds making Gs Gd to Gs Gd; ewe's in lamb ranged from 3s Gd for old broken mouthed, to 9s 4d for good 2-tooth; rams sold at low prices, viz,, 10s to 12s Gd, tho season for them being passed, The sheep were all crossbred or long-woolled.
_ Horses,-The sales in horses have been very limited, especially for hacks, this being the worst season of the year for their disposal, and prices consequently low, they soiling from as low as'3os for old stagers, to £8 and £9 for serviceable hacks. Draughts have maintained their rates, a few selling for waggon and farm work from £ls to £2O each, and young, unbroken draught stock, from £l2 to £l4 each. • Pigs.—Some 140 were sold, and piices throughout were .considered good. For large, good-conditioned 1 pigs, from 35s to 40s; good store pigs, 21s to 30s; small stores, 10s to 16s; and 20s to; 25s foti'fat porkers, Very small pigs were the lksi ill': demand, thoy selling as low as 5s eaefi. ' Potatoes.—'We Bojd:;Upwards of 40 tons during tho month, thb' 'average price obtained being 70s per ton fo|; '!good table potatoes, and 80s for flukes, 'fcijri .Oats.—The market jk rather overstocked at present, and the prife irather under those at the commencement >bf jthe season, We' havo placed several parcels tif'Sputhern grown, prices being 2s 8d for best fee&ts, Gd 'for infeiior, and 2s 4d for those slighttyidamaged.' Wheat.—'Very littlo has:, eliaiiged hands in locally grown, the bulk of tljat being sold at the commencement of the seaSoh at 4s, Small parcels still continue to arrive: from the South,, the millers being able to land iWor considerably, less than 4s. Wheat for poisoifing purpose's is, selling at 3s Gd, and fowls' whekt, according to quality, from 2s Gd to 3s. . : I Poultry.—Ordinary fowls, fop-tabje purposes, do not go beyond 2s Gd per pair:. ducks, Gs; turkeys, 8s; geese, 8s Gd. A tow pens of pedigree fowls realised from 13s to 30s per pen of three.
Bacon.—The sales now are principally of locally cured bacon, and the prices averago 7d per lb,, the market being rather over-atboked. Sales of Fruit and Ornamental Tr<(es during June were very brisk, the bulk of ,them being Canterbury and Nelson grown, Upwards of 4000 apple trees alone, and a quantity of other fruit and ornamental trees changed hands; The prices for fruit trees ranged from 9d to Is 3d each, PRODUCE PRICES, The wholesale prices of produce in Masterton at this date are as follows Fresh butter, ls2dtols3d; eggs, Is 2d; baconand hams, 7d ; new oats 2s Cd, retail, 3s; wheat 4s; cheeso, Cd to 8d; potatoes, 4s.
