o (UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL, In tlio Council, it was resolved that papers relating to the Christchurch Hospital Enquiry be laid on the table, the Colonial Secretary remarking that they were of a lively character.
Tlio Colonial Secretary moved the second reading of the Disqualification Act Amendment Bill, and said it was necessary to appoiut a Military Commandant. It was not intended to make the appointment of Sir George Whitmore permanent, as the Government only intended to pay Mm a salary temporarily. The deba'te was adjourned until the 30th inst. The Criminal Code Bill was read a second time, and the Council adjourned until Tuesday.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, The House met at 2,30 p.m. Leavo of absence was given to Mr Seddon for one week, owing to sickness an his family.
Replying to questions itwaß stated thaj; it was not proposed to establish an Agricultural Department this session, but the question would be considered during the recess. That the reason why the Kai„ koura was not quarantined was because the matter was not known to the authorities till it appeared in the newspapers. That no petition had as yet been received from Fiji praying for annexation. That Mr John White's manuscripts had been received by Government, but in such a confused state that some time must elapse before they were ready for publication. That copies of bills and papers could be supplied to members for the purpose of forwarding them to local parliamentary unions. That copies of bills introduced this session affecting local bodies would be forwarded to those bodies.

Mr Ballance moved the second reading I of the Tuakitoko and Kaitangata Lake [Bill. Agreed to. I Sir Julius Vogel moved the second ■'.reading of tho Fire and Marine Insurance I Companies Bill. Agreed to. - The House adjourned at 4.45 p,m. till ! 7.30 p.m. ■
