The annual returns from the Sheep Department, prepared by Mr Bayley, were laid upon the table of the House yesterday afternoon. The number of sheep in the colony is stated to be 13,978,520, exclusive of lambs, being an increase of 672,161 during the twelve months. No less than 491,066 froz en carcases were exported, 100,409 sheep were preserved,' 52,206 were boiled down, and 2,165 were exported alive. The North Island is supposed tp be free jrgifl and the Middle Island nearly po, qnjy a fpff {locks in Marlborough being infected, Tjie jast wool clip, as well as the lambing, is reported to have been favorable.
