THE MASTERTON ROAD BOARD.
Uhiil two years ago the Masterton Road Board followed the commendable practice l of publishing its annual balance sheeta; but; about, that time it .got into a bad financial position, and since then, in placo of the balance-sheet, there has appeared an annual notice stating that it'was open for inspection during office hours at tiie offices of the Board, As ratepayers will be curious to know how the Board's finances stand this year, we publish the balance-sheet in a slightly condensed .form. We are, however,• afraid that it ■ will not give all the insight that might be wished for, as there is no statement showing liabilities. The statement is for the year ending March 31sfc, 1885 :- Receipts-General rates, L 1292 4s 4d; special rates, L53119s 9d ; loans under Roads and Bridges' Construction Act, L 6313 2s lid; share of County Fund,' L 347 12s 9d; deposits on contracts, Ll4B 10s 6'd; refunds, L3031658d; rent of offices, L211456d; total, L 8959 Is sd, Expenditure-Balance on Ist April 1884, LIOO 6s 10d; new roads, L 454 4s (id ; existing roads; L 636 8s 9d; tools, &c, L 76 5s Cd; refunds, L25010s sd; expenditure out of special rates or grants, interest on loans,. L 638 7s; works, completed aud being constructed under Roads and Bridges Construction Act, L 5844 4s 6d; compensation for land, L 53 15s; salaries and rent, L 516 16s lOd; printing and advertising, LBl ; 14s 3d; sundries, Ll6s2s'2d; balance on March. 31st, 1885,- L1415s 8d; total, L 8959 Is sd. : - ■' •
