LANDS BOARD.

Evening Press. A meeting of the Lands Board was held yesterday morning, Present-Messrs J. W, A. Marcliant, Commissioner of Crown Lands (in the chair), H, Bunny, W. A. Fitzherbert, 6. Beethain, W. W. McCardle, and T. Masou,

It was reported that since last meeting 36 applications for a total of 7fi(Xi acres 1 rood and 20 perches on lease and deferred payment had been sent in. The upset price 'amounts to £10,004, -or nearly LI h pgr acre, and L 1077, lis had been paid upon the applications. Mew Brodio and Fry, applied for the limitation of the boundaries of the road through their section, No 8, Block XI,, Kopuaranga, and offered to clear the bush if 'necessary. The matter was referred to the Board, with a view to having the deferred payment expended on the road.

Considerable discussion took place on a motion by Mr Bunny, seconded by Mr McOardle, that all lands offered for sale for cash,-be withdrawn for three months, with a view to the lands being reclassified, His object was to prevent large tracts being purchased by individuals, to the detriment of surrounding settlers. The opinion of the Board seemed to be that the proposed action was idt/ra vires. Mr McCardle njoved that certain lands in tlje Miki-Miki, Kopuaranga, and Rangitumau districts be offered fur sale as pastoral lands under the leasehold system. Carried,

Mr Beetham presented to the Commissioner a numerously signed petition from settlers and residents at Kumeroa, Hawke's Bay, asking that a block of 10,000 acres near that place be offered : for sale, in sections of 100 to 320 acres, on deferred payment, It was resolved that a report be prepared on the land asked for.

A letter from, the Wairarapa East County Council was read relative to the Crown landß between the Miki-miki |and Makakahl streams, and that Jying eastward between Peep-o'-day and Clyde trig stations being thrown open for settlement as pastoral laiidj and that roads in. continuation of the Ujf>per Opaki and Mikimiki, as well as other lines in the other block, be' located'arid laid .off.'/It Vas resolved to inform' the' County that the matter had; already, been'.pjoced before the Government by the Board, It; was resolved on Mr' Bunny's motion
