CASTLEPORT ROAD BOARD.

The adjourned meeting of the Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Mackay, Harvey, Maunsell, Meredith, and Langdon. The. Clerk informed the members present that the first business was to elect a Chairman for the ensuing year; also, that Mr R. Maunsell had been duly elected a member for No. 3 sub-vision; and that Mr Langdon had been re-elected for No. 2.

. Mr Mackay was unanimously re-elected Chairman, on the motion of Mr R. Meredith, seconded by Mr Langdon, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The Chairman reported a balance in bank of £207 15s 3d, and balance available for future 1 expenditure £loßlos 4d. The accounts passed for payment by the members present on the 30th ult. were duly confirmed,

The Chairman explained that lately considerable delays had occurred in carrying out the ordinary routine work of the Board through the non-attondance of members on the dates fixed for the ordinary meeting, and hoped that in future the members would attend more'regularly. " With the view of removing the cause of the conflicting interests between the ratepayers desiring that their rates should be spent principally on either the County roads or the district roads, that all roads now defined as district roads be declared County roads, and that instead of the Road Boards and County Council each levying a rate, that all money required for both the county and district roads within the road district be collected by the County, and handed overte the Road Boards for expenditure. The next meeting was fixed for the 27th inst.
