CASTLEPORT ROAD BOARD.
The adjourned meeting of the Board was held on Saturday last. Present—Messrs Mackay, Harvey, Maunsell, Meredith, and Langdon. The. Clerk informed the members present that the first business was to elect a Chairman for the ensuing year; also, that Mr R. Maunsell had been duly elected a member for No. 3 sub-vision; and that Mr Langdon had been re-elected for No. 2.
. Mr Mackay was unanimously re-elected Chairman, on the motion of Mr R. Meredith, seconded by Mr Langdon, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.
The Chairman reported a balance in bank of £207 15s 3d, and balance available for future 1 expenditure £loßlos 4d. The accounts passed for payment by the members present on the 30th ult. were duly confirmed,
The Chairman explained that lately considerable delays had occurred in carrying out the ordinary routine work of the Board through the non-attondance of members on the dates fixed for the ordinary meeting, and hoped that in future the members would attend more'regularly. A shiail sum was granted for putting in a oulvert and opening.'a drain on Whakaroro road; also, a small sum was authorized to be expended on the Blairlogie road,, at its junction with the main road, \ 1 CORREIPONDENCK, Prom Mr Langdon, requesting that the road rates > paid by settlers within fivo miles of Tinui on the Eketahuna road be expended in metalling the worst portions of that road. From Mr Nicholls, applying for assistance to improve the road to his slaughter-house. From County Clerk, in reply to a request for the County Engineer to lay off a road line-: at : Adams' Peak, and stating that a definite reply would be forwarded soon. " - ■ RI'SOIVED, V ■ That temporary repairs bemade to the culverts on the . Uriti line, pending tile arrival of timber, ■ , . That Mr J. Henderson be paid 76% on the.value ofworkdoneat the flint cutting, and that he must " complete the contract as soon as the roads are in a condition to' cart metal on. ■ . 1
That - a small sum be granted to assist Mr Nicholls in improving the . road to his slaughter-yard, with the understanding that the public should have the right to use the said road, until a line is surveyed, That the statement of the time the overseer has benn on County work be forwarded to the Council, and that a re-, quest be made' for payment of services rendered,
That a sum of £2O bo expended in breaking or preparing; metal to repair and metal portions of the road between Flag Creek and Ngapopatu. ° That an application be made to the County Council for plans of. all roads laid off in this District, at the request' of this Boavd..
That the Maafcertoi) Board be asked to reply to the request for a grant to supplement the sum voted to repair Blairlogie a'oad.
The following accounts were passed for payment on the 30th ulfc
W, A. Kainie, road repairs ... 5 10 0 Mr R. Maunsell laid on the table the following notice of motion. " With the view of removing the cause of the conflicting interests between the ratepayers desiring that their rates should be spent principally on either the County roads or the district roads, that all roads now defined as district roads be declared County roads, and that instead of the Road Boards and County Council each levying a rate, that all money required for both the county and district roads within the road district be collected by the County, and handed overte the Road Boards for expenditure. The next meeting was fixed for the 27th inst.
