MASTERTON—THIS DAY,
(Before H. A, Stratford, R.M.)
John Neil pleaded guilty to a charge of having been drunk and disorderly on the previous Evening, From evidence taken it -appeared that accused arrived in a drunken state at the door of the Theatre, and tried to force his way inland being prevented, used, foul language, and assaulted the doorkeeper. Fined £1 and costs, in default of payment to- be imprisoned for a week., . , WANDERING COWS. James Ewington pleaded, guilty to having sllowed four cows to wander in the streets of the Borough, but said in extenuation that the' animals had got away because his fences had been washed away on the banks of the Waipoua river. Fined 4s, and costs 7s. . OBSTRUOTINQ FOOTPATH. Henry Owen was charged with having committed a breach of the Borough bylaws by allowing a case to remain on the footpath in Queen-street, and pleaded guilty. 1 ■ i • r - . f Fined Is and 7s costs, UNREGISTERED DOGS. Edward Braggins admitted being the owner of three unregistered dogs, and said in extonuation that two of the animals had not belonged to him for some time past, but tliq owners had not removed them., . J. C. Ingram, registrar of dogs, stated that the dogs should have been registered in January. His Worship said the maximum penalty was £5 for each dog, and formerly the minimum was £2, on account of the difficulty of proving ownership, Now, however, any person having a dog in his possession could be proceeded against, and the minimum was therefore reduced. He would impost a fine of 38 for each dog and 7s costs.
A similar charge against George Watson was withdrawn.
